About Pigs

Pigs are a food source and animal we are familiar with. We are focusing on the rapid development of science and technology driven by the global agriculture and animal husbandry increasingly complex methods. We must lead and break through the unresolved future and dilemmas of Pig Farming Philosophy.

According to the statistical survey of pig farmers in May, 2022 by the National Animal Industry Foundation, the farmers are mostly distributed in the central and southern regions; with Yunlin, Pingtung and Changhua as the largest (places of origin). Among them, are 6,133 farms with an average size of 890 pigs breeding per farm.

The agricultural and livestock industry continues to find new ways to improve the feeding methods, and is gradually accepting new and innovative technology to adapt to the demands of the market. They take action using technology and automation management together with data analysis to eagerly increase production, lower manpower requirements while reducing costs and improving quality. They do it while improving overall, the pig's health and farm safety.

Future ─ Staring from wanting to assist every pig farmer and breeder to succeed, we have established a stable and solid management system foundation. From personal visits to pig farms and monitoring farmer activities, we understand the needs and implementation of the farms. In the future, we aim to enter the livestock industry.

PRENATAL TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT OF SOWS

Body Temperature monitoring and identification of sows before pregnancy to understand the changes in ovulation and conception of sows.

  1. Estrus Ovulation - Sows are the lifeblood of pig farms. The average estrus cycle is 21 days, and the most critical days are 2~3 days before ovulation. The swelling of the vulva and a rise in temperature can be observed through the naked eye and temperature monitoring devices.
  2. Insemination - In order to make sure the mating of sows are successful, it is necessary to closely observe the estrus cycle and body temperature changes of sows. So that the industry may find best mating times, to improve and to strive for effective conception opportunities.
  3. Pregnancy and Conception - To ensure the pregnancy of sows, it's necessary to accurately detect the temperature changes during pregnancy. in short, if the sow's body temperature rises, the breeder can quickly determine whether the sow's pregnancy stage is stable and smooth.

˙ SOW ESTROUS CYCLE ˙

Proper understanding of the estrous cycle of sows is helpful for the future development of sow reproduction.

Sow Estrous Cycle vs. Temperature Detection

The Sow estrous cycle with an average of 21 days per cycle. We use the two major stages as basis for observing the body temperature of sows; namely the luteal phase and the follicular phase.

We collect data and process the data from non-contact temperature detection, and then analyze the trend of their body temperature changes, we then convert the data into usable information and let the system run throughout the entire platform.

In order to let the industry inquire and make real-time decisions, effectively save time, and estimate the sow's physiological and pregnancy stages are stable, SBI is committed to making key information available to assist the industry to observe, to manage, and to track the health and safety of the sows.

Making a judgement based on temperature ─ Sow Pregnancy

In the temperature change graph(1) of sows in estrus, we find that after ovulation, the temperature of the sows will drop slightly. Around the 9th day, the temperature change is more stable and continuous.

However, the key to  deciding whether a sow is pregnant is from the 17th to 21st day. This stage shows that the temperature of the sow tends to stabilize, and can have a very high probability of being confirmed as "Pregnant".

Making a judgement based on temperature ─ Sow is not Pregnant

In the temperature change graph(2) of sows during estrus, we find that after ovulation, the temperature of the sow will drop slightly and then rise slowly. From the 8th day to the 16th day. The temperature is stable.

However, the key to deciding whether a sow is pregnant is from day 17th to day 21th. This stage shows that the body temperature  of the sow gradually drops, and it can have a very high probability of being confirmed as "Not pregnant".

BODY TEMPERATURE OBSERVATION OF SOWS AND PIGLETS

Detecting the body temperature of sows during parturition and the body temperature of newborn piglets.

SOW

Temperature monitoring of sows from farrowing to the end of the process, continuous monitoring through this period of time, to observe and to ensure that the body temperature of sows are stable and reduce unnecessary risks and deaths.

PIGLETS

Temperature measurement of the piglets fro the end the farrowing process, through real-time temperature observation results. It is possible to know whether their temperature is normal or abnormal, to ensure the health of the piglets and reduce the risks of hypothermia, being crushed, stillbirth and disease.

PIG WEIGHT MONITORING

The delicate relationship between weight management, analysis and feed amount in pigs.

Weight Management

Continuous weight monitoring and management of pigs at different stages may provide an in-depth understanding of the pigs at each stage are in a stable and good condition. And through data analysis, to be able to adopt appropriate feeding adjustments to manage the health and growth of the pigs.

Feed Management

Different feeding amounts must be adopted according to different weight of pigs. In the process of breeding, over fat or underweight pigs will directly affect their condition, so different feed amounts must be given accordingly to achieve weight control, reduce overfeeding consts in order to achieve improved health and quality indicators.

PIG ACTIVITY MONITORING

Intelligently track the daily behavior and characteristics of pigs, which is beneficial to explore the growth process and health status of pigs

“ They're gentle and intelligent creatures. They also like to be tidy and has the ability to distinguish. They have a concept of living space. If they're in th e wild, they are social animals that live in groups and have class distinctions... ”

The activity of pigs are closely tied to the day and night cycle, four seasons, environment and temperature. They;re most active during the day and warm seasons. At night, pigs move less and consume less food and in cold and humid weather their activity will be significantly shortened.

So why do we need to observer and track the activity and behavior of pigs?

Wool comes from the sheep” if we return to this point of view, we can use it as an indicator for breeding healthy pigs.

From previous experimentation, accumulation of experience, classic literature, and curiosity. It's possible to trace and find the original survival and nature of pigs. However, due to the changes in acquired patterns and the needs of human evolution and life, had an impact on the typical habits of pigs.

We must seize the opportunity to raise healthy and robust pigs and cultivate them. Retrospectively-intense central breeding is the most common and familiar breeding mode at the current time, and it is difficult for the pigs to develop their behavioral space.

It seems easy to do centralized breeding, but it is also easy for pigs to succumb to disease and other health problems.

In addition to double-checking their daily lives, we can also observer their daily diet, activities, behaviors and emotions.

Through our strength and cooperation with intelligent automation technology equipment, we can help pigs and pig farmers cultivate healthy and strong pigs; effectively reducing risks of disease in pigs and help establish health indicators.

Reference for Determining Feed Amount

Feed Amount

  1. Activity - It is important whether the daily activities of the pig are normal, since their level activity is different at different ages. Therefore, knowing the activity levels, habits and rhythms are normal through detection technologies will help pig farmers manage feed intake, feeding amount and energy consumption...etc. Activities and health of the pigs are inseparable, if we can take properly care of their basic health, their future growth process will be relatively smooth and safe. And reduce pig's risk of exposure to disease.
  2. Consumption - Daytime is generally the peak activity time for pigs, and in contrast, they are less active at night when they're in the resting stage. Similar to people's daily routine, so there is link between energy expenditure and activity occurrence. If work and rest are normal and the activities are normal, then the amount of total expenditure and behavior are also closely related. Every time the behavior and activity produced by the natural operations of the body will bring out the energy expenditure (calorie), based on this fact, we can estimate the total expenditure or the level (proportion) of specific expenditures. Which can be calculated and converted into useful data for the database.
  3. Feed Amount - Each pig is unique, and their feeding patterns is closely related to individual development and health. Even if their activities and expenditures are normal, the eating habits and absorption rate of each pig are different. Therefore, for pig farmers, the willingness to invest in the lowest management costs and produce the best and healthiest pigs is the key. Based on relevant information and expert testimony, it is known that the feeding habits of pigs are selective. They tend to like sweet, milky, grainy and wet foods. There's no need to worry about appetite with healthy pigs; on the contrary, sick and young pigs with poor appetite and relative decline in activity. There is a need to provide feed with better potability to improve their appetite, in order to enhance their physical fitness and health.
